The Butterfly Bedroom Bedtime Shema

For this commission, a family wanted to gift their little cousin turning two with an artwork for her room that would be of sacred significance, and witness more memory and meaning as she grew up.

The Shema (the foundation of the Jewish belief in one G-d) was selected as the Prayer most appropriate for this occasion.

Here four butterflies to represent each member of the family, softly fly into the space of the artwork.

The background is a dreamy and magical palette of blues, pinks, purples and greens.

The use of watercolour creates these soft washes that bleed and blend gently into each other.

Iridescent powders and pigments were dusted above the artwork to create an iridescent veil that dances in the light.
